This grapefruit smoothie is delicious and satisfying. I’m a huge fan of smoothies—they’re healthy and you can easily make them without added sugar.
They can also be a meal replacement and they’re fast and simple to whip up. I always feel like an expert in the kitchen when I make them.
Grapefruit is a very healthy food and a great choice for a smoothie. It has antioxidant properties, acts as an appetite suppressant, and can help reduce fatigue.
Not only that but it can promote sleep, help with diabetes, and provide assistance with many aspects of the digestive process.
I like to add 1-2 raw eggs to my smoothies when I’m drinking them in lieu of a meal.
That said, it’s important to note that raw eggs can contain salmonella (a harmful baceria). If that’s a concern for you, but you still want some added protein, consider using pasteruized eggs or potein powder.
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) considers raw eggs safe if they are pasteurized—a process where heat is applied to reduce the bacteria and microorganisms in food.
- 1 Grapefruit
- 1/4 Cup Almond Milk
- 1/4 tsp Stevia Powder
- 5 Ice Cubes
- 1 Egg (optional)
- Don’t peel the grapefruit—this leaves a lot of the white, bitter rind in the smoothie and it makes the smoothie taste bitter.
- Instead, cut the grapefruit into quarters and cut the fruit out of the peel, making sure to leave the rind off.
- Combine all ingredients in high-speed blender and blend until smooth.
My favorite brand of almond milk is MALK. They have very pure ingredients.
“MALK Organics products are dairy-, soy-, gluten-, GMO- and lactose-free and vegan friendly. No carrageenan. No binders. No colors or sweeteners Mother Nature wouldn’t recognize. Made with six ingredients or less, and more than one cup of sprouted organic nuts in every bottle, Cold-pressed with the latest technology to retain all the nutrients without losing any of the flavor.”
If you plan to make smoothies on a regular basis, I highly recommend getting a Vitamix or Blendtec blender.
I have a Vitamix, and the difference between something made in a regular blender and something made in my Vitamix is very different.
